Duties involved:

  • Material Handling: You will be responsible for handling asphalt and other materials required for paving, such as gravel, sand, and concrete. This includes loading and unloading materials from trucks, using shovels, wheelbarrows, and other tools to move materials around the job site.
  • Equipment Operation: You may be required to operate and maintain various types of equipment used in asphalt paving, such as rollers, compactors, and pavers. You will need to be trained and licensed to operate these machines safely.
  • Asphalt Installation: You will assist the paving crew in installing and finishing asphalt, which includes spreading and leveling the asphalt, compacting it with rollers, and finishing it with a smooth surface.

The primary role is to maintain a fleet of small engine equipment, light to heavy duty trucks; and perform other duties as required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Rebuild and repair all parts of cars, trucks and small engine equipment.
  • Small engine maintenance and repair - saws, edgers, weed Eaters, compressors.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Have a working knowledge of light to heavy duty electrical systems.
  • Brakes: Repairs or replaces shoes, pads, drums, hoses, calipers, cylinders, from light duty to heavy duty trucks.
  • Hydraulic: Repairs or replaces pumps, hoses, valves, and cylinders.
  • Air: Repairs or replaces compressors, air dryers, brake valves, air tanks and hoses.
  • Operate and inspect trucks, machines or equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Testing repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications
  • Read and understand technical service manuals.
  • Keep simple records.
  • Properly following all company, shop, DOT, OSHA, and MiOSHA safety rules.
  • Work in conjunction and as a team.
  • Perform a range of additional activities and tasks when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Operating and controlling the screed to maintain the proper thickness and slope of the asphalt surface.

  • Monitoring the temperature of the asphalt to ensure that it is at the correct temperature for paving.
  • Monitoring the speed and direction of the paving machine to ensure that the asphalt is applied evenly and accurately.
  • Communicating with the paving crew to coordinate the placement of the asphalt and ensure that the job is completed on time and to the required specifications.
  • Maintaining and repairing the paving machine and the screed as needed to ensure that it is in good working condition.
  • Following safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for themselves and their co-workers.
